We are thrilled to share that the owner of Facade, Corinne Williams, was interviewed for a piece in the upcoming issue of PaperCity! PaperCity is a local publication available free in Houston with articles about fashion, trends, events, and Houston society.

Here’s your sneak peek of the interview! You can pick up a copy of PaperCity here at Facade or at several other local businesses throughout Houston!

Want the products Corinne mentions?

Bye Bye Undereye from IT Cosmetics is $25 for a tube that will last you at LEAST 3 months. Bye Bye Pores also from IT Cosmetics is $25. These products are absolute MUST-HAVES as far as we’re concerned! The entire concept behind IT Cosmetics are products that look realistic even on High Definition television. If it’s good enough for that, it’s good enough for us!

Beauty For Real Cream Blushes, $30. We sell the “Beauty For Real” collection too! Each of these creamy blush compacts have two colors in them. In a beautiful dusty rose tone with a soft highlight color called “Get Lit/ In the Pink” and a gorgeous bronze color with a gold highlight called “Goldrush/After glow”. We recommend Using the pink and/or bronze on the apple of your cheek, and either of the highlight colors on the tops of cheekbones for a beautiful, dewy glow. The bronze/gold colors will be beautiful in the upcoming spring/summer months!

ERA spray foundation, $55, by Classified Cosmetics comes in a variety of colors, provides great coverage that looks like real skin, and contains skin-loving ingredients to soothe and heal sensitive or blemish-prone skin. Plus it’s WATERPROOF so you can dance all night long even in Houston’s high humidity and know that your look will last!

LIPSMART, $30, is a beautiful hydrating lip plumper. Old plumpers basically used ingredients they KNOW will irritate your lips to the point they swell–which accounts for the extra volume they provide. It’s usually not harmful–most companies use products like peppermint extract, but it IS irritating. Lipsmart, on the other hand uses ingredients that encourage water retention on a cellular level. Over time, the skin cell swells to accommodate the extra water molecules giving you plump, luscious lips without the sting!

Paul & Joe Beaute 001B Bronzer, $40, is beautiful for paler complexions. It doesn’t have any sparkle in it, and lends a soft beautiful warmth that never looks heavy or dirty.

Facade Natural Touch Foundation, $50, is Corinne’s liquid version of the ERA spray foundation. Great for girls intimidated by the spray application. This formula also feels a little lighter once on and therefor feels better on less oily skins than the spray foundation. It too, is a waterproof formula.

Facade Waterproof Eyeliners, $22. These are THE best eyeliner pencils for lining the inside membrane of the eye HANDS-DOWN. Available in 10 stunning shades that really last! When the nights over and you’re ready to remove, just use a waterproof eye makeup remover like “In An Instant” from Ilona or vaseline works very nicely too!

Instead of coming into the shop, occasionally brides prefer us to come to them. Whether it’s in the privacy of their own home, or the comfort of a bridal suite- we can make that happen! It often invokes a feeling of calm, quiet intimacy with her bridesmaids and mother.

Last weekend, bride Robin Ricks, was married at the Houstonian. She and her husband, Aravind, held a Catholic ceremony on Friday and a Hindu ceremony on Saturday.

Senior staff artist, Dayna Leigh, did the makeup for the ceremony on Friday, and was accompanied by senior staff artist, Kate Block, to assist with makeup the following day.

A newly popular trend has been for the videographer to put together a “Same Day Edit” to play during the reception. This video was filmed and put together by T2 Production. Catch Dayna in scenes :19-:31 of the video doing the makeup for the bride! Plus a close-up shot of the brides finished face at :48!

On-location fees for staff artists are $300 (price includes the first face) and $85 for every face thereafter.

On-location fees with Facade owner, Corinne Williams are $500 (including the cost of the first face) and $100 for every face thereafter.

Usually, a minimum of 3 faces is required for each on-location visit.

There are additional charges for travel outside the beltway, bringing an additional artist, and false lashes, if these things are necessary.

blush, blusher stick, cream blush, eyeliner, face & eye color, gel eyeliner, kitty cat lipstick, lipstick, nail enamel, nail polish, Paul & Joe, Paul & Joe "Glitter", Paul & Joe "Meow", Paul & Joe Spring 2012

We were thrilled when we heard Paul & Joe was going to release their newest Spring Collection in homage to the cat! Not only is the packaging beautiful, but many of the products have patterns pressed in the product itself like paw prints across the lipsticks, and blusher sticks shaped like adorable kitties with top hats and bow-ties!

Many stores are already sold out of some (or all) of these products and because they are limited edition, they cannot be re-ordered.

This collection has gotten rave reviews (and helpful tutorials) all over the web!

We, however, have quite a bit still in stock! In addition to the cute kitschy products, there’s also a brand new star in the collection that we hope will become a permanent member of the Paul & Joe Beaute family– the waterproof Gel liner! We are LOVING this stuff! It comes with it’s own brush and glides on easily. Plus, it truly lasts! We love this for creating a thin line on the upper lashbed and blurring a little with our own LORELEI waterproof pencil. Use a swipe more on the outer corners of the eye as a “dovetail” that will last all night!

Lipstick $20 each

Blusher Stick $28 each

(001 is a beautiful highlighting color to make the nose look a little straighter, highlight tops of cheekbones, or even highlight the brow bone or put in center of lower lip for a little frost and shine)

Nail Enamel $14 each

Face & Eye Color Palettes $36 each

Gel Liner $25

Pressed Powder $42

Plus, Corinne ordered the rest of the kitty lipsticks made a couple of months ago so we’ve still got plenty left! Check out our previous post about that here for pictures! Due to the limited availability and the fact that they will never be made again, they are $30 each.

We are happy to ship any products throughout Canada and the U.S. If you are interested in ordering, please e-mail us at facadeuptown@aol.com or call the store at 713-552-1545 and ask to speak with Kate or Jason.

Cuticle Cream, Cuticle Oil, Cuticles, Emery Board, Jessica, Manicure, Nail file, Nails, Paul & Joe

It’s lovely to be able to get a manicure every week or two–but if you’re as hard on your nails as I am, you may need to do your own polish changes between times, or it may not even be worth your time/money at all, and you’d be better off doing it on your own.

First, you’ll want to shape your nails by trimming and filing. We have great emery boards from Jessica and Paul & Joe Beaute($5 each).

After this, you may like to soak your hands in warm sudsy water. If necessary, apply cuticle softener and use cuticle nippers to trim off excess cuticle, or use a cuticle pusher to gently slide back the cuticle.

Dry your hands thoroughly and use an appropriate base coat. Jessica makes one for hard, brittle nails, another for soft nails, one for peeling nails, and another for “regular” nails ($12). Choose one that is appropriate and apply 1 or 2 coats.

Next, apply 2-3 coats of your choice of nail polish color. We have a variety of gorgeous hues from both Paul & Joe, $15 and Jessica, $6.

Wait about 5 to 10 minutes before applying your top coat for maximum shine. The top coat made by Jessica dries quickly and really extends the life of your manicure!

Since you’re no manicurist, you may need to use a pointed q-tip ($10 for a pack of 40 double-ended pointed swabs) dipped in nail polish remover to tidy up the job you’ve done.

Last, but not least, once you are SURE your polish is dry, apply Jessica Cuticle Cream ($5) or Phenomen Cuticle Oil ($6) and gently massage onto cuticles and nail beds.

I recommend doing this step last, because if done before polishing the nail, the oils in these products can actually prevent the polish from adhering as well to the nail which makes your manicure chip sooner.

Knowing which makeup brushes to use can totally change your makeup look. Using three different brushes with the exact same eyeshadow can make the same shade look entirely different.

There are a few rules of thumb–

The larger, fluffier, longer, and softer the bristle, the more diffused the application will be.

The shorter, stiffer, and more compact the bristle, the more intense the application will be.

So for instance, our #29 Wash brush, $35 (Pictured below) has very fluffy soft bristles and will create a very soft application. It’s fabulous for the very first eyeshadow color on your eye OR, alternatively to glaze over the entire eye when you’re finished with a pretty tone. This is NOT the brush to use for smoky techniques, but can be used first for the base shadow color.

Alternatively, the #31 tate brush, $30 (pictured below) is PERFECT for getting the most true intensity from your shadows, with it’s short, dense application it will give you the most contrast. It’s great for creating a beautiful contour or accent on the outer corner of the eye for something sexy and demure. Also, the sable bristle is GREAT to use wet for even more intensity–plus using it damp will prevent dark shadows from falling onto your cheeks and ruining your foundation!

anti-fatigue smoothing eye gel, crows feet, Darphin, diamond extreme eye cream, eye cream, eye gel, massage to de-puff eye, massage to increase circulation around eye, Natura Bisse, puffy eyes, stimul-eye gel, Stimulskin Plus eye cream, under-eye circles, Wrinkle Corrective Eye Contour Cream

Whether your complaints are puffs, under-eye circles, or crows feet–this trick will help your eye gel or cream do a LOT more for you!

Not too long ago, professionals told you to use your ring finger (purportedly the weakest of your fingers) to gently tap eye cream to the delicate skin around the eye.

But studies have proven that this technique isn’t actually the best. Although the tissue around the eye IS in fact, delicate–massage has many benefits. In fact, they’ve been recognized by Hippocrates, the father of medicine, ages ago. Massage even in this area helps drain extra fluids that may be causing puffiness. It also is THE best way to encourage the product to penetrate. The deeper it penetrates, the MORE benefits you will see from it, and the FASTER you will see them too! Especially if you have been ill, tired, had too much to drink the night before, or are suffering from allergies, THIS will help you look fresh and perky!

It doesn’t have to take forever, and you don’t have to make a point of it EVERY time–but next time you’re putting on your eye gel or cream give it a try! You shouldn’t have to use a lot of product, but enough that your fingers will glide (not tug) across your skin. Use your index or middle finger to draw circles around the orbit of the eye, changing the diameter of the circle as you go so you cover all of the skin under the eye and even on the eyelid. You can use slightly firmer pressure under the eye than on the lid–remember–firm but gentle.

On the outer corner of the eyes, use a small circular motion  or massage ACROSS any fine lines or wrinkles…imagine that your skin is a garment you’re trying to iron and your skull is the ironing board.

Some of our absolute favorites for the eye area are:

Natura Bisse Stimul-Eye Gel $68
Natura Bisse Diamond Eye Cream $195
Darphin Anti-Fatigue Eye Gel $38
Darphin Wrinkle Corrective Eye Contour $75
Darphin Stimulskin Plus Eye Cream $125

eye glaze, eye gloss, eyeshadow primer, FB#27 Sculpture brush, FB#5 perfect liner brush, Girlactik

We ❤ Girlactik eye glazes! This product is FABULOUS for weddings and special occasions–there have been times we’ve gotten some on our hands and tried to wash it off with soap and water and it won’t budge! It only comes off easily with eyemakeup remover! These eye glazes ($20) are like an eyeshadow and primer in one. The creamy formula is packaged in a tube sort of like that of a lipgloss.

Try using one of these to really make your eyes pop!

We especially love shades, CHIC, GLAMOUR, and LOVE for use over the entire eyelid. The easiest way to apply it is to smear it across the entire eyelid (you can spread it out using your finger OR a sable bristle/ synthetic bristle brush). It gives a beautiful soft shimmer to the lid, and helps other shadows you apply afterward to adhere better and last longer.

You can also use these light shades with a small liner brush (try Facade #5 Perfect Liner brush, pictured left, $15) to delicately line the inner, lower corner of the eye to add some extra brightness. Smudge right along the lashline, only about halfway. Blur with a darker eyeliner on the outer corner for added dimension.

Alternatively, their colors GLAM and SEXY are beautiful when brushed on the lower lashline (try Facade #27 Sculpture brush, pictured right, $15) to create that soft, smudgy, sort of rock’n’roll look.

Try layering different colors, or just using one with shadows on top. Easy and gorgeous!
