DO NOT TRY TO SCULPT/CONTOUR WITH YOUR BRONZER! Contouring with a contouring powder (Kevyn Aucoin makes one) is best for this because it is not WARM—warm bronzers put under cheekbones can look dirty! Bronzer looks best dusted in a big W accross cheeks and nose where the sun would hit you first! Dust remnants on brush across the hairline and your chin if it is prominent–if you were to go out without sunscreen these are the places you would get pinkest (or tannest) before anything else—Therefor, it is the wisest place to put the most color!

All of our girls always ask about the latest and greatest ways to fake a gorgeous bronze glow for summer. Here’s the low-down on our favorite products that make it easy!

Natura Bisse Cure Sheer Touch, $105, is hands-down our favorite secret weapon for a natural-looking faux bronze! It is a SKINCARE product meant for face and body designed with ingredients to hydrate and firm the skin all while delivering a beautiful translucent bronze hue through its lightweight gel formula! The perfect summer moisturizer because it’s not too heavy and provides a bit of color. But that’s not even half of it: It also has low levels of the self-tanning ingredient DHA that gradually builds color with extended use. We all need this to get through summer! It’s an investment, but the tube is HUGE (5.3 Oz) and there’s a lot of bang for your buck. This isn’t just makeup. A major plus is that it doesn’t have the same gross smell most self-tanners do!

 

 

 

 

Like the idea of Cure Sheer Touch, but not the price tag? T Le Clerc Soleil Gel tint is very similar in texture and color but it is just a makeup. It’s also more conveniently sized for your purse or makeup bag at just 1.01 fl oz. Regularly $45, this little puppy is a steal at just $27 on sale while supplies last! Try adding just some to your moisturizer or foundation for a subtle addition of a bronze glow or use all on it’s own for a little extra oomph! It’s also great for arms, legs, and chests!

 

 

 

Like the idea of the Soleil Gel Teint but don’t want to get your fingers messy? Instead, try Era Everyday Sun Kissed ($28, pictured above) or Era Rayz 1 In the Sun ($40) spray bronzers! 1 in the Sun has more pigment than sunkissed, and is also more expensive because it is packed with pharmaceutical grade vitamins A, E, and C to fight free radical damage your skin may have already experienced! Decisions, decisions…Either way, shake it well and mist over your face as desired. We like to gently whisk over it with a synthetic brush (like IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Brush, $48, pictured above) or to buff it in quickly with a big powder puff. The best part? These babies are WATERPROOF so they are summer (and even beach)-proof!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Are you usually a fan of cream blushes? Beauty For Real’s GoldRush/After Glow Cream cheek combo ($30) will quickly become a bronze babe’s favorite go-to product. Use fingers, a sponge, or a synthetic brush (we like the Mixer brush from Geri G, $16). To use this gorgeous bronze/gold hi-lighter combo as desired. (Hint: The gold also looks pretty on lids and either are great on lips!)

Want a more traditional powder bronzer but still love that gorgeous luminous look? We are smitten with Kevyn Aucoin’s Celestial Bronzing Veil in Tropical Days (top photo) and Tropical Nights (bottom photo). Both leave behind a gorgeous bronze glow. Both have a pretty ombre effect which is majorly convenient because you can sweep your brush to the top for a little less color or toward the bottom as you develop more color in the summertime (or sans spray-tan) or you can swish through everything for a nice medium mix!  We love Tropical Nights for girls afraid of looking too orange since it has a beautiful cool undertone that will NEVER leave you orange. Tropical Days has a bit more warmth and is pretty for girls who have warmer skin tones or a deeper tan. Just the perfect amount of warmth–not too dark, and never fake-looking. $45 each.

Prefer a more matte finish? We absolutely adore Diego Dalla Palma Tanning Cake #99 ($45). No shimmer, no sparkle. Just realistic-looking bronze color. For that just-got-back-from-the-Caymans look. This fool-proof bronzer is tough to over-do.

For the perfect application of powder bronzers, look for a large fluffy brush with lots of air between the bristles. This will ensure that you add just the right amount of product and it gets diffused over your face instead of instantly overloading one spot. Our Facade Bronze Beauty brush ($75) is absolutely indispensable to us for that reason. Wash it once before using it the first time and the bristles will blossom out to be even fuller and fluffier!

Curious how to make it Humidity-proof? Take a couple of squirts of Geri G Transceutical Skin Canvas, $46, and use your hands to press it over your face. This product WATERPROOFS everything! (Seriously the uses for this product are endless–we also like dampening a liner brush with it, and then using any eyeshadow as waterproof eyeliner!)

We’ve gotten in some fabulous new goodies from Kevyn Aucoin!

Launching 5 new shades of their Matte lipcolor, and 8 shades of their NEW EXPERT LIPSTICK formula, this brand originally conceptualized by famous makeup artist, Kevyn Aucoin, has finally arrived! The new shades in their Matte line, as before, are very richly pigmented for a full-coverage color that really hugs the lip and lasts. Here are the colors (our favorite is Tenacious–especially topped with a gloss!):

And for the new expert lipsticks, we are still reeling! Their texture is like the Paul & Joe Beaute lipstick texture—sheer, creamy, and smooth. They also contain ingredients to soften and hydrate the lip, and are paraben free! We are even in utter adoration of the TUBE the lipstick comes in! Each lipstick is held to its case with a magnetic component. The lipstick can stand upright on your vanity on it’s very own little pedestal. How very regal looking. Facade is BEYOND excited to announce the debut of KEVYN AUCOIN in our store! This legendary makeup artist and author of best-selling books Making Faces and Face Forward, was (and still is) incredibly respected in the beauty industry.

Kevyn was interested in makeup from the time he was a child, and frequently did his sisters’ makeup and photographed the results with a Polaroid camera—something he’d do throughout his career. Afraid to buy makeup, he would shoplift it. The guilt of stealing and fear of getting caught made him stop. Later in life, he enrolled in beauty school and had hoped to learn more about applying makeup, but ended up teaching the class instead.

At 18, he worked in a small corner of an exclusive women’s store in his hometown Lafayette, Louisiana. But the women were uncomfortable with a man doing their makeup. Thelma Aucoin (his mother) recalled, “It was $30 for a makeup lesson, and these were women who paid $3,000 for a dress, but they’d never let him.”

Now, Kevyn’s impeccable eye for color and all things elegant is embodied in this sexy, innovative, and yet classic makeup collection.

To top it all off, what really got us going was finding out HE was the original designer of the Shu Umeura lash curler we fell in love with years ago. There’s been a lot of buzz about primers over the years, but how do you know if you need one? What do they do and how do they work?

FOR THE FACE

Generally speaking, primers for the face are similar to paint primers for your walls–they create a clean canvas for your foundation to adhere to– often resulting in more even coverage and longer wear.Many of them also act somewhat like a “spackle” too, by lightly filling in large pores and fine lines, creating a more smooth look for skin with textural imperfections.

That being said- primers may not be worth it to some girls. As far as longevity goes, our Facade Natural Touch Foundation and Classified ERA Spray-On Foundation are already waterproof, and Ilona Realistic True-To-Skin Foundation is water resistant! Even in Houston’s OVER THE TOP humidity, it’s not going anywhere! But if texture, or even tone are still a concern—a primer might be for you. But in addition to primers for the face, there are now primers for lashes and lids! Here’s the skinny:

Diego Dalla Palma Universal Makeup Base, $42.00, 1.0 fl oz.

This primer has a really luxurious, velvety feel. It gives the skin a smoother, more even texture. This silicone-free formula uses glycerin instead so it feels light-NEVER greasy! No ick-factor here.

Classified Cosmetics Primer, (aerosol spray), $30.00, 25 fl oz.

This revolutionary primer has taken after it’s foundation big sister- Just like the foundation, you shake and gently mist it on the face. It imparts a pretty glow that radiates even under foundation and visibly leaves skin silky.

Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Primer$42.00, .34 fl oz.

A silky, lightweight primer that imparts a flawless pore-free finish. Also free of silicone, with a glycerine base to hydrate the skin without clogging problem skin.

FOR EYES

it Cosmetics BYE BYE LID LINES, $25, .25 fl oz.

This primer smooths the texture of crepe-y lids, prevents shadows from creasing, and helps your shadows go on looking TRUE to the color in the pan. It also helps provide longer wear, so there isn’t any reason your shadow can’t work overtime! Apply with the wand, and use your finger or a sable brush to smooth over the entire lid. Fabulous especially for smoothing the appearance of thinning or aging skin.

Girlactik EYE GLAZES, $18, .20 fl oz.

These are a GODSEND for lids everywhere. Several water-proof shades to choose from– won’t even BUDGE through tears or sweat. We use these all the time on brides and bridal parties. These glazes combine a primer and shadow TOGETHER. We love a 2-for-1! Layer shadows OVER it, and it will increase their staying power as well, or layer other glazes! Gorgeous! Also great for smudging a little color under lower lashes for a CONTROLLED smudgy, sexy look that won’t smear afterward!

Revitalash Volumizing Lash Primer, $24, .25 fl oz.

Compatible with ANY mascara, this primer doesn’t have the fibers in it the old primers had-this is a transparent gel formula that coats each lash adding fullness and length. Never clumps, flakes, or looks heavy. Great for everyday OR special occasions. If you’re a multiple-coat mascara girl- you have GOT to try this–it will cut your work at least in half! Apply mascara as usual after.
